In the Recording Studio...
The
Damocles Trio will complete its first commercial recording of Joaquín
Turina's complete piano trios and quartet in October, 2002. The trio
is delighted to collaborate with Emerson Quartet violist Lawrence
Dutton in Turina's Piano Quartet (see also articles below on Turina's
chamber music as well as the trio's list of upcoming performances)
and Grammy-Award winning record producer Adam Abeshouse. Release information
will be available from the trio's website.
Pianist Adam Kent's recording of Ernesto Halffter's complete piano
music (Bridge 9106) has been garnering rave reviews from the international
press. BBC Music Magazine recently gave the CD its highest rating
and commented, "Exotic, vital, dancy and eloquently lyrical by
turns, (the music) has, too, certain rather jazzy elements, all of
which are impeccably captured by this young American pianist...Beautifully
recorded, his playing here is often suggestive of Alicia de Larrocha.
The sound, like much of Spanish music, particularly flamenco, is often
hard, but never unpleasantly strident, but there's also a full-bodied
'singing' tone, perfectly suited to the music's more lyrical and rhapsodic
moments, and a command of buoyant articulation from which many far
better-known pianists could learn a lot. I recommend this disc wholeheartedly."
The CD is available in local record stores and through the internet
at www.bridgerecords.com or amazon.com.
